The age old questions – what makes the most impact when you are trying to build an aesthetic body? Diet vs exercise vs supplements – the debate will end here!
As the image above clearly shows, the base of building any aesthetic body comes with proper dieting. While supplements are never in the equation for the most important factor, diet vs exercise has been a heated discussion among many in the fitness world. The fact is this: diet is more important than training. However, you will definitely need both to build a physique that you can be proud of.
When it comes to dieting for any goal, tracking your calories is the most important thing, by far. If you want to build a great body, you need to hit your daily protein goals and fill in the rest of your calories with whatever you want/need to. If you know anything about us here at MiBriFit, it’s that we are believers in flexible dieting – it’s what we personally use and get great results from! You won’t get a great body without a good diet, period.
The supporters of exercise being the top factor in the diet vs exercise vs supplements debate will state that even with a perfect diet, you will have a not-so-great body without proper training. Simply put, they are right.
You need to build muscle to improve aesthetics. Strength and hypertrophy training are vital. You need to be hitting the weights 3 times a week at the least. If you think that cardio is necessary for a great physique, you are wrong. Cardio is great for burning calories. This can be great during a cutting phase because you don’t have to cut back on calories as much. In this way, cardio can improve your physique. But here is the truth: if you cut back 100-200 calories a day instead of doing cardio, you aren’t going suffer. Cardio is important for your health, not your physique.
After the discussion of diet vs exercise, supplements seem like a redundant conversation. Why even mention them if they can’t compare to diet and training? Here is why – the supplement industry does a fantastic job marketing and making you believe that supplements are the most important thing for results.
While supplements are generally a big let down compared to their marketing hype, there are a few supplements that are great to add to your arsenal. In fact, if you dial it in with your training and nutrition, you can improve on your results with supplements that actually work. I won’t go into detail on which supplements that you should use and which ones that you will only waste money on by using – that is a topic for a whole other blog post. Besides, until you really get your training and nutrition put together properly, you don’t need to worry about supplements very much. Worry about supplements when you stop seeing results from diet and training.
As you can see from the image at the top of this article, you can get 100% out of your effort by dialing it in with each of these factors. Work on your nutrition and your training and add in supplements when you plateau. This will help you more than you will ever know! Don’t waste more time with half-assed dieting and the wrong approach to training thinking that the hundreds you spend on supplements every month will make up for it!
