These five things are what JYM Supplement Science claim their Pre JYM pre-workout powder will help with. With the ingredient list provided, there is no reason to doubt anything that they are saying.

Most pre-workout powders have small scoops of 5-15g so it may come as a shock when you see the size of the 25g scoop with Pre JYM pre workout. JYM Supplement Science claim there is no way you can get all the nutrients one needs into such a small scoop, which is why they recommend 25g/serving. Let’s have a look at the ingredient list:

  • 6 grams BCAAs (3g Leucine, 1.5g Valine, 1.5g Isoleucine)
    • Helps to increase rates of protein synthesis, suppress muscle protein breakdown, reduce markers of muscle damage, and lessen the symptoms of delayed onset of muscle soreness (DOMS).
  • 6 grams of Citrulline Malate
    • Synergistic affects with amino acids, especically branched chain amino acids (BCAAs). Gaining reputation as an excellent ‘pump’ or blood-flow enhancer.
  • 2 grams of Creatine HCL
    • Helps to increase muscle strength and size, enhances recovery, improves sprint performance and enhances brain function.
  • 2 grams of CarnoSyn Beta-Alanine
    • Helps to boost explosive muscular strength and power output, increases muscle mass, boosts anaerobic and aerobic muscle performance, increases endurance.
  • 5 grams of Betaine
    • Helps to balance cortisol levels. In return it helps increase strength, increase power and improve endurance.
  • 600 milligrams of N-Acetyl L-Cysteine (NAC)
    • A more water soluble analogue of L-Cysteine. NAC is a powerful anti-oxidant that destroys harmful ‘free radicals’ in the body. Reseach also suggests that NAC protects other antioxidants from breaking down in the body, including vitamins C and E.
  • 500 milligrams of Betavulgaris L.(beet) extract
    • Helps to increase the level of nitric oxide in the body. Nitric oxide is a vasodilator which widens blood vessels and prevents them from ‘stiffening’ – excellent for cardiovascular health.
  • 300 milligrams of Caffeine
    • A powerful central nervous system stimulant – caffeine helps to improve strength and power, improves sprinting ability, increases overall performance and also decreases fatigue during and after workout.
  • 300 milligrams of Alpha-GPC
    • Alpha-GPC can help with muscle performance during workouts. It also helps produce growth hormone which helps increase muscle growth.
  • 50 micrograms of Huperzine A
    • Helps to slow the breakdown of neurotransmitter acetyl-choline. Acetyl-choline helps muscle performance and also helps in the production of growth hormone which helps to increase muscle mass.
  • 5 milligrams of BioPerine
    • Helps to decrease fatigue during and after a workout.

 

That’s a lot of nutrients for one scoop! Although having a large scoop is definitely a benefit in regards to the amount of nutrients you can take in, there are reports of people have G.I issues after drinking it too fast. Follow the guidelines! It is recommended that JYM pre workout is left for 30 minutes to fully breakdown and dissolve into a drinkable solution. It is then recommended that is “sipped over 20-30 minutes”. ‘Sipping’ Pre JYM pre workout not only helps absorption but also seems to minimize the risk of G.I. problems occurring.

JYM Supplement Science recommend that 25g of powder is mixed with 12-32 liquid ounces of water. We highly recommend you use 32 ounces, just make sure you have something big enough to hold all that liquid. The flavours are actually very good for gym supplements, but are extremely strong if diluted in less than 32 ounces of water. Make sure to sip the drink as mentioned above.

It sounds too good! There must be a catch…

Well it may sound like we are looking at this product through rose-tinted glasses, this simply is not the case. There are some drawbacks however that we will look at below:

  • Gastro-intestinal problems seem to be a relatively common problem, especially the first couple of times people try Pre JYM. It is recommended if it causes your stomach to feel strange that you try eat a light meal before drinking it and make sure you are drinking it over 30 minutes to reduce any negative effects it might be having.
  • Flavour! The flavours are great, but they are strong (which they need to be to mask 25g of supplements!) When using Pre JYM pre workout we recommend using 32 ounces of water to dilute the product – it is then maybe the tastiest supplement out there!
  • The final thing that can be seen as a disadvantage to JYM pre workout is the cost. Working out at roughly $50 for 30 scoops the product is more expensive per scoop than many similar products. The old saying ‘you get what you pay for’ has never rang so true. This is a high-quality supplement that delivers what it says it will, and the extra few dollars you pay will be noticeable in your workouts and in your gains!
